    Implied volatility at the daily close of trade for the at-the-money March 02 canola options has ranged between a high of 22.4% and a low of 16.0% since August 2001. During the same period, the underlying canola futures historical volatility (standardized to 20 trading days) has ranged from a high of 21.3% to a low of 8.4%. Both the implied and underlying historical volatility ended the month well within the ranges seen in the previous two years at 17.1% and 16.6% respectively.

    Activity in canola futures pit trade was higher for the month of November, up 21.1% to 164,930 contracts, compared to the 136,232 contracts attained in November 2000. As well, crop and calendar year-to-date volumes were up 7.4% and 28.4% respectively, over the same period a year ago. Open interest levels in canola futures on November 30, 2001 were 8.8% higher than the same date in 2000.

  • Standard & Poor's Announces Changes In The S&P/CDNX Composite Index

    Standard & Poor's Canadian Index Operations announces the following changes to the S&P/CDNX Composite Index prior to its launch on Monday, December 10, 2001. A constituent list containing 545 companies eligible for inclusion in the index was made public on November 7, 2001. According to index methodology, companies are removed from the index if they are delisted from the CDNX or moved to another exchange.
