Oslo Børs Opens Up Trading In Index Derivatives For Small Investors

Starting today, investors can trade OBX futures contracts on Oslo Børs in relatively modest amounts. This is because with effect from today OBX options and OBX futures can be traded as single contracts. This means that investors can take a position in the OBX index of Oslo Børs by investing just NOK 4,500.

The number of trades on SETS, the London Stock Exchange's electronic order book, increased 21 per cent in November 2002 to 2.38 million trades compared with 1.96 million in November 2001. The average daily number of trades on SETS increased from 88,991 trades in November 2001 to 113,122 trades in November 2002, an increase of 27 per cent. The International Petroleum Exchange (IPE), today announced that IPE Natural Gas futures volumes in November, the first full month of the contract trading on the IntercontinentalExchange (ICE) platform, set a record volume of 56,745 monthly lots (2,700 lots/day), 3.2 percent ahead of the previous volume record of 54,995 lots set in August 2000.

Euronext.liffe announces that it succesfully transferred all Amsterdam futures and options from open outcry trading to screen trading today, completing the migration project three months ahead of schedule. The migration led to a substantial rise in traded volumes. The number of contracts traded increased on average by 79% following the move from open outcry trading to screen trading.
