With effect from November 30 Raffaele Jerusalmi, Executive Director of Financial Markets, will take up on an interim basis the responsibility for managing Nuovo Mercato, the high growth companies market, replacing Maria Pierdicchi who has announced that later this month will leave the Italian Exchange to join an important financial institution.

Turnover for October was EUR 57,870.6 million. This compares to EUR 50,069.5 million in September. Domestic turnover in October was EUR 49,461.9 million, foreign turnover 7,612.9 million, Nuovo Mercato, Domestic, EUR 764.1 million, Nuovo Mercato, Foreign, EUR 6.2 million and on the Ristretto market EUR 25.4 million.

On November 6th, 2002, open interest on FORTS (Futures & Options on the RTS) market reached the all-time high of 303 296. The previous record of 293 830 contracts was set on November 1, 2002.

The Baltic Exchange issued the following statement today (Friday, 8 November): "On the expiry of the period for exclusive negotiations agreed in heads of terms between the two companies in August, the Exchange has decided not to pursue the purchase of Strategic Software on those provisional terms. No further comment will be made."
