MGEX Continues Growth Trend By Shattering January Trading Records

Continued high volatility in the Minneapolis Grain Exchange’s (MGEX or Exchange) Hard Red Spring Wheat contract contributed to another record-setting month. The Exchange closed January trading with another all-time daily electronic volume record – the fourth new top daily volume record this month. KCBT Sees Second Largest January Volume - KCBT January Trading Volume Second Largest in Exchange History for Calendar Month

The Kansas City Board of Trade trading volume for the month of January was the second largest for that calendar month in the history of the exchange. Total exchange volume amounted to 352,893 contracts, an increase of 22.8 percent compared to last January and 69.5 percent compared to last month. This tally is second only to January 2006, which saw trading volume of 372,393 contracts.

Eurex: New Monthly Record With 207 Million Contracts - More Than 200 Million Contracts In A Single Month For The First Time - Equity Index Derivatives Set New Record With 98 Million Contracts - ISE For The First Time With More Than 100 Million Contracts

The international derivatives exchange Eurex traded traded a total of more than 207 million contracts in January, up 57 percent year on year (Jan 07: 132 million). Approximately 9,4 million contracts per day were traded in January. Open interest totaled around 126 million contracts at the end of the month.

In January €307 billion were turned over on Xetra and on the floor of Börse Frankfurt – a rise of 61 percent year-on-year (January 2007: €191,1 billion). Thereof €292,7 billion were traded on Xetra gaining 65 percent year-on-year (January 2007: €176.6 billion) and €15 billion on the floor (January 2007: €14.4 billion).
