MGEX Reports Strong August 2009 Volume And Open Interest Growth

MGEX (Minneapolis Grain Exchange or Exchange) August 2009 volume increased 37 percent over July to 118,252 contracts traded. Futures trading of the flagship Hard Red Spring Wheat (HRSW) contract increased by 36 percent while options trading increased by 75 percent.

SEC And CFTC Announce Participants For Joint Meetings On Regulation Harmonization - First Meeting To Take Place At The CFTC On September 2, 2009 And The Second Meeting To Take Place At The SEC On September 3, 2009

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) today announced the participants for the two agencies’ joint meetings to seek input from the public on harmonization of market regulation. The SEC and the CFTC expect these meetings will provide the agencies valuable insight on any recommendations for changes to their statutes and regulations that would eliminate regulatory differences with respect to similar types of financial instruments.

BOX Grows Market Share, Volume

In the month of August, BOX market share in BOX-traded classes was 4.91%, which represented a gain over the 4.36% reported last month as well as the 4.76% reported for the same period last year. Heavily traded ETFs such as SPY, QQQQ, and IWM continued to be the main growth driver for BOX (9% combined market share in August).

Boerse Stuttgart Reports August Turnover Of EUR 7.2 Billion - Substantial Increase In Equities Trading - ETF Trading Volume More Than Double Figure For August 2008 - Strong Demand For Corporate Bonds

According to the order book statistics, Boerse Stuttgart, Germany’s leading exchange for retail investors, recorded just under EUR 7.2 billion of turnover in August 2009, around 16 percent lower than the preceding month. However, although August is traditionally a quieter month, equities put in a strong performance to end around 9 percent up on the previous month and 57 percent up on August 2008 at over EUR 766 million.
