New Zealand Financial Markets Authority: Former Financial Adviser Pleads Guilty To Further Dishonesty Offences

Natalie Ann Carter, a former Hawke’s Bay-based mortgage broker, has pleaded guilty to a further three criminal charges brought against her by the Financial Markets Authority (FMA) - Te Mana Tātai Hokohoko.

Today, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Janet L. Yellen convened a meeting of the Financial Stability Oversight Council (Council) in executive and public sessions at the U.S. Department of the Treasury (Treasury).  

US Financial Stability Oversight Council Releases 2023 Annual Report

The Financial Stability Oversight Council (Council) today unanimously approved its 2023 annual report.  The annual report reviews financial market developments, describes potential emerging threats to U.S. financial stability, identifies vulnerabilities in the financial system, and makes recommendations to mitigate those threats and vulnerabilities.  Overall, the Council finds that the U.S. financial system remains resilient, and the U.S. banking system remains sound.  The report also details the activities of the Council and summarizes significant regulatory developments.  The report was developed collaboratively by Council members and their agencies and staffs.

SEC Charges Titanium Capital And Founder Henry Abdo With Operating Ponzi Scheme

The Securities and Exchange Commission today charged Florida-based Titanium Capital LLC and its founder Henry Abdo with operating a Ponzi scheme that raised at least $5.3 million from more than 160 retail investors in the United States and abroad. The SEC also charged Titanium representative Carol Ann Barsh for her role soliciting investors.

CFTC Orders Freepoint Commodities LLC To Pay $91 Million For Fraudulent Scheme To Misappropriate Material Non-Public Information

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission today issued an order simultaneously filing and settling misappropriation-based fraud charges against Freepoint Commodities LLC, a commodities merchant in Stamford, Connecticut. The fraudulent and deceptive conduct spanned from 2012 to 2018 and involved unlawful misconduct designed to obtain material non-public information from a South American state-owned enterprise (SOE) in connection with the purchase and sale of fuel oil. The order requires Freepoint to pay more than $91 million in civil monetary penalties and disgorgement.
