    Ladies and gentlemen,

    Let me start with a warm word of thanks to Cyprus for the Presidency of the Council during the past six months. I want to thank them for their dedication and hard work, and especially President Christofias, my warmest thanks, because in the middle of a very difficult and challenging situation in Cyprus you and your collaborators have shown your commitment to the European ideals. There were real achievements during these six months. I will not quote all of them, but I think the Single Supervisory Mechanism, Schengen governance, common asylum system are especially important.

  • Deutsche Börse: Xetra-Gold Most Successful ETC On Xetra For Past Five Years - Highest Average Turnover In ETC Segment - New Website To Coincide With 5th Birthday

    Xetra-Gold (ISIN: DE000A0S9GB0) has been the most frequently traded Exchange Traded Commodity (ETC) on Xetra since its launch on 14 December 2007. With an average monthly turnover of €164.9 million, Xetra-Gold accounts for around 25 percent of Deutsche Börse's total ETC turnover. The issuer is Deutsche Börse Commodities GmbH, a joint venture between Deutsche Börse, five banks (Commerzbank, Deutsche Bank, DZ Bank, B. Metzler seel. Sohn & Co. and Swiss bank Vontobel) and gold producer Umicore.

    The ECB’s Financial Stability Review, published today, highlights a tangible easing of euro area financial stability strains since the summer that has been evident across various market indicators. The ECB’s announcement of its Outright Monetary Transactions (OMTs) programme and the decisions taken by the European Council in June are fundamentally responsible for the improvement felt in the financial markets that has reduced the dispersion of yields and spreads of sovereign debt instruments. The agreement reached by the ECOFIN (and the European Council) on the establishment of a Single Supervisory Mechanism, centered in the ECB, is another important indication of the Monetary Union framework continuous improvement with positive consequences for future financial stability.
