European Parliament: Barnier Debate Highlights Next Steps For Banking Union

Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee MEPs quizzed Commissioner Barnier Monday on his upcoming proposals for dealing with banks in trouble. They pressed him to present an ambitious plan. Other questions concerned planned legislation on shadow banking and insurance as well as transatlantic relations.

Europe’s stock exchanges are deeply concerned that there are growing barriers to European mid-sized companies - Europe's job creating engine - accessing public markets. A declining trend of IPOs not only harms the growing companies and their local economies, but it also takes away the unique benefits of public markets such as transparent and safe ways of investing for Europe’s investors and the retention of the intellectual property and entrepreneurial gains of dynamic companies in Europe. We believe that urgent action is required to understand why this is so and what can be done to resolve the situation. A letter was sent to Minister Noonan asking the Irish Presidency to consider further action.

Hellenic Exchanges S.A. HELEX Q1 2013 Financial Results - €4.0m Net After Tax Profits

The consolidated net after tax profits of HELEX in Q1 2013 amounted to €4m vs. €4.8m in Q1 2012, reduced by 16.5%. The net after tax profits per share including bond valuation differences amounted to €0.06 vs. €0.09 in the corresponding period last year.

Second Burgundy Dress Rehearsal Completed

On Saturday 25 May the second and final dress rehearsal (DR2) for Millennium Exchange on the Burgundy markets was conducted. A number of members and information vendors participated and Oslo Børs completed all planned activities, including a failover and recovery where the trade was resumed at the secondary data center (SDC).

European Parliament: MEPs To Quiz Barnier On Banking Union And Financial Services Legislation

This afternoon, from 17:00 (CET), Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee MEPs will meet internal market and financial services Commissioner Michel Barnier. The key issue will be the process to establish a banking union. More specifically, MEPs will discuss the last steps to set up a single bank supervisor and the pending and forthcoming legislation on bank recovery and resolution.

The Court of First Instance today dismissed an appeal by the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) against the decision to acquit Mr Liang Jiang, a fund manager, on charges of false trading during the global financial crisis in 2008.

HKFE Announces Margin Rates For Adjusted PICC Futures Contracts

Hong Kong Futures Exchange Limited (HKFE), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx), has announced that with effect from the commencement of trading on Tuesday, 28 May 2013, the minimum margins to be collected by an Exchange Participant from its clients in respect of their dealings in the following futures contracts will be as outlined in the table below. The margins are based on the clearing company’s normal procedures and standard margining methodology.
