Thomson Reuters And The National Venture Capital Association: Venture Capital Funds Raised $4.1 Billion During Third Quarter 2013 - Experienced Funds Dominate The Fundraising Scene

U.S. venture capital firms raised $4.1 billion from 56 funds during the third quarter of 2013, an increase of 28 percent compared to the level of dollar commitments raised during Q2 2013, and a 14 percent increase by number of funds, according to Thomson Reuters and the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA). Dollar commitments raised during the first three quarters of 2013 are down 29 percent from those raised in the same period last year. By number of funds, the third quarter of 2013 ranks as the strongest quarter for venture capital fundraising in 12 months. This quarter the top five venture capital funds accounted for 58 percent of total dollars raised.

UK's Financial Conduct Authority Decides To Ban And Fine Timothy Roberts And Andrew Wilkins

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has published decision notices against Timothy Roberts, the chief executive, and Andrew Wilkins, a former director of Catalyst Investment Group Limited (Catalyst). The FCA has decided to fine Roberts £450,000 and ban him from the industry; and fine Wilkins £100,000 and prevent him from holding senior roles in future.

Platts: September European Power Prices Rose 26.3% On Low Renewables Output - Price Increases Seen In Continental & U.K. Natural Gas And U.K. Power

Day-ahead electricity prices in Continental Europe rose sharply in September, pulling further away from historic lows seen in June, according to monthly data just released by Platts, a leading global energy, petrochemicals and metals information provider.

Dubai Financial Market (DFM) Performance – Q3, 2013

The Dubai Financial Market General Index increased by 24.3% to 2762.5 points at the end of this quarter compared to 2222.6 points at the end of second quarter. At the sectoral level, indexes of seven out of the nine sectors represented on DFM ended the quarter in the green, with the Services sector increasing the most by 34.8%, followed by the Financial and Investment Services and the Real Estate and Construction sectors by 34.6%, and 27% respectively. The Industrial sector index has not changed during this quarter, while the Consumer Staples index decreased by 9.9%.
