SROs Launch Study To Analyze Implementation Cost Of The Consolidated Audit Trail - Industry Feedback Sought To Help Determine Data Collection Costs - Deadline For Submission Is August 6, 2014

The national securities exchanges and FINRA (collectively, the self-regulatory organizations, or SROs) today began distributing a cost study questionnaire to gather information to assess and manage the financial impact of anticipated Consolidated Audit Trail (CAT) reporting requirements on the broker-dealer community. The SROs are obligated to submit to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) a national market system (NMS) plan to create, implement and maintain a consolidated order tracking system, or the CAT. The SROs are currently working together to identify an optimal design for the CAT and this study is a key part of that deliberative process. The SROs have requested that recipients return the completed questionnaire by August 6, 2014.

- Share volumes traded across Tape A, B, and C totaled 21.0 billion shares, a decrease of 12.8% monthly, and decrease of 13.3% annually.
- In May 2014, off-exchange trading accounted for 36.1% of the shares traded in NMS Equity Securities, an increase of 1.3% compared to last month.
- NYSE-listed securities share volume was 63.7 billion shares, a decrease of 11.2% monthly and decrease of 16.5% annually.
- Share volume in NASDAQ-listed securities was 39.4 billion shares, a 11.5% monthly decrease and 0.8% annual increase.

SEC Charges Hedge Fund Advisory Firm And Others In South Florida-Based Scheme To Misuse Investor Proceeds

The Securities and Exchange Commission today charged a West Palm Beach, Fla.-based hedge fund advisory firm and its founder with fraudulently shifting money from one investment to another without informing investors. The firm’s founder and another individual later pocketed some of the transferred investor proceeds to enrich themselves.

MGEX Sets Records For 3rd Consecutive Day

MGEX, a Designated Contract Market (DCM) and Derivatives Clearing Organization (DCO), reports both a top 20 record in exchange volume and a top 10 record in electronic volume from Friday’s activity. Total volume was the 17th-best ever, finishing the day at 16,855. Electronic volume came in at No. 10 all-time with15,340 contracts traded.

ESMA Publishes Updated EMIR Q&A

The European Markets and Securities Authority has published today an update of its Questions & Answers (Q&A) document regarding the implementation of the European Markets Infrastructure Regulation (EMIR). The latest Q&As provide answers to frequently asked questions mostly in relation to the population of specific fields relating to reporting of data on exposures (i.e. collateral and valuations). The reporting start date for such data is 11 August 2014, which means that the first counterparties reports are due no later than the end of 12 August 2014.
