  • Japan Exchange Group: Consolidated Financial Results For The Six Months Ended September 30, 2016

    During the consolidated cumulative second quarter (from April 1, 2016 to September 30, 2016), the Group recorded operating revenue of ¥52,882 million (8.7% decrease from the same period of the previous fiscal year (i.e. year-on-year)) due to factors such as year-on-year decreases in trading of cash equities and derivatives, while operating expenses were ¥25,593 million (9.8% year-on-year increase). As a result, the Group recorded operating income of ¥28,258 million (19.9% year-on-year decrease) and income before income tax of ¥29,022 million (20.0% year-on-year decrease).

    In a press release issued by ILS Bermuda, Bermuda Stock Exchange CEO Greg Wojciechowski, comments on the Global ILS Industry.  The filing stated:

    • BSX listings reach 159 securities with market capitalization of $19.2billion
    • Within the last decade, the Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) has registered 159 Special Purpose Insurers (SPIs) as at Q2, 2016.

    Thank you for the invitation and opportunity to be here.  And thank you Chairman Doty for your continuing strong leadership of the PCAOB and Steve Harris for your chairmanship of the Investor Advisory Group (IAG).  Thank you to Lewis Ferguson, Jay Hanson and Jeanette Franzel for your hard and productive work on the Board, and the entire PCAOB staff for your dedication and service to raising audit quality.  And thank you to the members of the IAG for all that you do for the same cause.  Having been fortunate to have attended your annual meeting in past years, I am always impressed by the thoughtful dialogue that takes place here.  The behind the scenes effort from each member in preparation for this meeting is always evident as well.

    • Consolidation in the banking sector continued in 2015
    • Median CET 1 ratio increased to 14.6% from 14% in 2014 and profitability of the euro area banking sector improved
    • In 2015 the median NPL ratio of banks, although still elevated, declined for the first time since 2008
    • The banking system increased its reliance on deposit funding and became less dependent on wholesale and central bank funding
    • Insurance companies and pension funds are starting to adjust structurally to the low-yield environment
