Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch announced today the filing of civil forfeiture complaints seeking the forfeiture and recovery of more than $1 billion in assets associated with an international conspiracy to launder funds misappropriated from a Malaysian sovereign wealth fund.  Today’s complaints represent the largest single action ever brought under the Kleptocracy Asset Recovery Initiative.

Within the framework of the targets and business strategies envisaged by the new management established on April 1, 2016, Borsa İstanbul terminated the employment contracts of 34 persons by July 15, 2016 on the grounds that their services are no longer needed. The contracts of a further 51 persons were terminated as of July 18, 2016.

The head of global foreign exchange cash trading at HSBC Bank plc, a subsidiary of HSBC Holdings plc (collectively HSBC), and HSBC’s former head of foreign exchange cash trading for Europe, the Middle East and Africa were charged with conspiring to defraud a client of HSBC through a scheme commonly referred to as “front running.” 

EBA Consults Public On The Minimum Requirement For Own Funds And Eligible Liabilities (MREL)

The European Banking Authority (EBA) has launched today a public consultation on its interim report on the implementation and design of the minimum requirement for own funds and eligible liabilities (MREL). The interim report is addressed to the European Commission, and it will inform a future legislative proposal on the implementation of the Financial Stability Board's "total loss-absorbing capacity" (TLAC) standard in the EU and the review of MREL. Further elements will be covered in the EBA's final report which will be provided to the European Commission by 31 October 2016.

1. Do you have any business or financial connections, or other commitments, which might give rise to a conflict of interest in carrying out your duties as Chief Executive of the FCA? 

I have no business, financial or other commitments which would create a conflict of interest for me as the CEO of the FCA.  I am familiar with the need to avoid such conflicts having been the CEO of the PRA.  I have two current accounts and general insurance policies for my home and car.  Pension, life insurance and medical insurance have been available to me as a Bank of England employee.

EBA Announces Timing For Publication Of 2016 EU-Wide Stress Test Results

The EBA announced today that detailed individual results for the banks participating in the 2016 EU-wide stress test, along with detailed balance sheets and exposure data as of end 2015, will be published on Friday 29 July 2016 at 22:00 Central European Summer Time (21:00 British Summer Time).

I want to start by recording my thanks to Tracey McDermott for her work both before and during her time as acting Chief Executive. Tracey has been an example to many people for her dedication to public service and the rigour of her thinking and actions.

This is my third week at the FCA. I am greatly enjoying the challenges of the role.
