  • Climate Bonds Signs MoU With China Hydrogen Alliance

    Today, the Hydrogen Alliance Research Institute (CHA) and the Climate Bonds Initiative announced that they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support credible and ambitious standards for the low-carbon hydrogen sector in China. 

  • US Department Of Justice: Samuel Bankman-Fried Sentenced To 25 Years For His Orchestration Of Multiple Fraudulent Schemes

    Samuel Bankman-Fried, also known as SBF, 32, of Stanford, California, was sentenced today to 25 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay $11 billion in forfeiture for his orchestration of multiple fraudulent schemes. Bankman-Fried, who was the founder of the cryptocurrency exchange FTX and the cryptocurrency trading firm Alameda Research, misappropriated billions of dollars of customer funds deposited with FTX, defrauded investors in FTX of more than $1.7 billion, and defrauded lenders to Alameda of more than $1.3 billion. Bankman-Fried was previously found guilty on two counts of wire fraud, two counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, one count of conspiracy to commit securities fraud, one count of conspiracy to commit commodities fraud, and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering, following a one-month trial before U.S. District Judge Lewis A. Kaplan, who imposed today’s sentence.

  • ISDA And Global Financial Markets Association: Joint Response To BCBS Crypto Standard Amendments Consultation

    ISDA, with the Global Financial Markets Association, the Futures Industry Association, the Institute of International Finance and the Financial Services Forum, submitted a joint response to the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS) consultation on proposed cryptoasset standard amendments.  ISDA and the other trade associations welcome the BCBS’s continued focus on designing and improving the prudential framework for cryptoassets.  The key topics in the consultation response include public permissionless blockchains, classification condition 2 and settlement finality and Group 1b eligibility.  The Associations look forward to ongoing collaboration as these markets continue to evolve.

  • ETFGI Reports Assets Of US$306.69 Billion Invested In ETFs Listed Globally Providing Exposure To China At The End Of February

    ETFGI, a leading independent research and consultancy firm covering trends in the global ETFs ecosystem, reported assets of US$306.69 billion invested in ETFs listed globally providing exposure to China at the end of February. ETFs and ETPs listed globally providing exposure to China gathered net inflows of US$25.55 billion during February. Total assets invested in ETFs listed globally providing exposure to China have increased year-to-date by 20.7% from US$254.06 billion at the end of January 2024 to US$306.69 billion, according to ETFGI’s February 2024 ETF and ETP China industry landscape insights report, an annual paid-for research subscription service.     Sam Bankman-Fried, the founder of the now-defunct FTX cryptocurrency exchange, was sentenced to 25 years in prison on Thursday. This sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan in a Manhattan courtroom for defrauding customers of USD8 billion, marking the culmination of the former billionaire prodigy's swift fall from grace.

  • US Department Of Justice: Swiss Commodities Trading Company Pleads Guilty To Foreign Bribery Scheme

    Trafigura Beheer B.V. (Trafigura), an international commodities trading company with its primary operations in Switzerland, pleaded guilty today and will pay over $126 million to resolve an investigation by the U.S. Justice Department into violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), stemming from the company’s corrupt scheme to pay bribes to Brazilian government officials to secure business with Brazil’s state-owned and state-controlled oil company, Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. – Petrobras (Petrobras).
