The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) today announced the filing of a federal court enforcement action under seal on January 16, 2018, charging commodity fraud and misappropriation related to the ongoing solicitation of customers for a virtual currency known as My Big Coin (MBC). The CFTC Complaint charges Defendants Randall Crater of East Hampton, New York, Mark Gillespie of Hartland, Michigan, and My Big Coin Pay, Inc., a corporation based in Las Vegas, Nevada, with misappropriating over $6 million from customers by, among other things, transferring customer funds into personal bank accounts, and using those funds for personal expenses and the purchase of luxury goods.

On 18 December 2017, Powernext and the Ukrainian gas network operator PJSC UKRTRANSGAZ signed a Memorandum of Understanding in order to evaluate possibilities for a cooperation. Powernext would bring its European experience in offering market-based tools to infrastructure operators while PJSC UKRTRANSGAZ would bring its knowledge of the Ukrainian gas market.

Li reflects on 2017 in the blog, and explains how successes from last year were the result of work done much earlier. He also looks ahead to 2018 and the challenges and work that remain. Li specifically looks at the biggest reform to the listing regime in Hong Kong in 25 years, and what Hong Kong must do to stay relevant and competitive. “We had a fantastic 2017, but many of the accomplishments were the result of our hard work a few years ago,” said Li. “As we reap the rewards from our earlier efforts, we have to plant for future harvests.”
