ASIC Consults On Short Selling Proposals

ASIC is seeking feedback on various proposals relating to both naked and covered short selling.

ASIC’s public consultation coincides with the sunsetting of a number of related class orders, providing an opportunity to review our regulatory approach to short selling.

EGX: Trading Hours During Ramadan Holy Month

The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) decided that the trading session dates during the month of Ramadan to be as follows:

• First : The trading session of listed securities (Main Market) from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm, preceded by a discovery session starts at 9:30 am.
• Second: Small & Medium Enterprises Stock Exchange (NILEX) from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm.
• Third: The time to record orders in the deals market for transactions with large volume from 9:15 am to 9:45 am. 
• Fourth: The trading session for non-listed securities (Orders Market, OTC) on Monday and Wednesday only of each week from 11:30 am to 12:00 pm.
• Fifth: The trading session for non-listed securities (Deals Market, OTC) from 09:30 am to 1:30 pm.
• Sixth: The trading session for non-listed securities (Central Depository) from 10:00 am to 11:30 am.
• Seventh: Time to divide Omnibus Accounts from 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm

Payments Canada, the Bank of Canada, TMX Group and Accenture have demonstrated that the instantaneous clearing and settlement of securities on-ledger is feasible, showing for the first time that both central bank cash and assets can be tokenized to complete an instant, end-to-end equity settlement on distributed ledger technology (DLT).

A total turnover of 1.586 billion shares worth N25.992 billion in 21,115 deals were traded this week by investors on the floor of the Exchange in contrast to a total of 1.331 billion  shares valued at N20.835  billion that exchanged hands last week in 18,695 deals.
