Today the Permanent Representatives Committee (Coreper) approved, on behalf of the Council, an agreement with the European Parliament on the text of the regulations for the relocation of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) to Amsterdam, and of the European Banking Authority (EBA) to Paris.

More than 100 guests attended the meet-up "Cryptovalley meets SDX" in Zug on 15 October 2018 to learn more about the plans of SIX and SIX Digital Exchange (SDX). Valerio Roncone, Head Product Management and Development for Securities & Exchanges, SIX, provided some insight into the strategic considerations and motivations of SIX in tackling a project like SDX. Ivo Sauter and Sven Roth of SDX showed the technological and strategic decisions that have been made so far to make SDX a reality.

Main results

The Council, meeting in an EU27 format, was informed by the Commission's Brexit chief negotiator, Michel Barnier, about the most recent talks with the UK, including his meeting with UK Secretary of State Dominic Raab. During the meeting, Michel Barnier explained that despite intense negotiating efforts, some key issues remain open, in particular the backstop to avoid a hard border between Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Like many of you, I have long been interested in the potential for innovation to improve financial access for families and small businesses who are underserved. The combination of smartphone apps, big data, artificial intelligence, and cloud technology holds out intriguing possibilities in financial services. But no single app is likely to be a silver bullet for the complex challenges faced by underserved households and small businesses. Achieving inclusion will require a holistic understanding of the challenges faced by underserved groups in order to develop full stack solutions to address them.
