    The Federal Reserve Board on Friday released its annual determination of the aggregate consolidated liabilities of financial companies as required by the Dodd-Frank Act. The act prohibits a financial company from combining with another company if the resulting company's liabilities would exceed 10 percent of the aggregate consolidated liabilities of all financial companies.

    • The IMF Executive Board approves the 60th request for emergency financial assistance to help its member countries address the challenges posed by COVID-19.
    • Bangladesh’s economy has been severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic with weaker domestic demand and a sharp decline in exports and remittances.
    • To address the urgent balance-of-payments and fiscal needs, the IMF approved US$ 732 million emergency assistance for Bangladesh under the Rapid Credit Facility and the Rapid Financing Instrument.
    • The government has scaled up health and social protection expenditures to mitigate the pandemic’s impact on the population and adopted several stimulus measures to preserve economic activity.

    • The S&P Europe 350® bounced up 3% in May as its various contributing nations unlocked at differing speeds and plans were laid for a stimulus package funded by the euro area’s first joint debt. 
    • Most countries and countries contributed positively, but Northern European equities, Information Technology stocks, and our Quality factor index performed particularly well. 
    • Pan-European sovereign yields got closer together: German sovereign yields rose, while those in Italy, Spain and Greece fell. 

  • Federal Reserve Board Releases Results Of Survey Of Senior Financial Officers At Banks About Their Strategies And Practices For Managing Reserve Balances

    The Federal Reserve Board on Friday released results of a survey of senior financial officers at banks about their strategies and practices for managing reserve balances. The Senior Financial Officer Survey is used by the Board to obtain information about deposit pricing and behavior, bank liability management, the provision of financial services, and reserve management strategies and practices. The most recent survey was conducted in collaboration with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York between January 31, 2020, and February 14, 2020, and includes responses from banks that held approximately three quarters of total banking system reserve balances at the time of the survey.

  • EBA: Consultation Paper On Draft Regulatory Technical Standards On Own Funds And Eligible Liabilities

    The European Banking Authority (EBA) published today a Consultation Paper on the draft amended Regulatory Technical Standards (RTS) on own funds and eligible liabilities. Since their entry into force, the RTS on own funds have significantly enhanced regulatory harmonisation of prudential rules and contributed to strengthening the quality of regulatory capital. With the revised Capital Requirements Regulation (CRR) introducing new criteria and requirements for eligible liabilities, these amended RTS capture several aspects of eligible liabilities as well as the changes to the own funds framework. The consultation runs until 31 August 2020.

    The European Banking Authority (EBA) published today its Report on convergence of supervisory practices in 2019. Overall, the Report finds that the key topics for supervisory attention identified in the EBA 2019 convergence plan have been largely implemented in supervisory work across the EU. The Report is part of the EBA’s work to actively foster and promote supervisory convergence across the Union in order to bring about strong supervisory standards and a common supervisory culture.
