CFTC: Federal Court Orders Pennsylvania Man Pay $7.4 Million In Restitution For Multi-Million Dollar Bitcoin Fraud

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission today announced that U.S. District Judge Loretta A. Preska of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York entered a consent order against Jon Barry Thompson of Easton, Pennsylvania, imposing injunctive relief and restitution of approximately $7.4 million. The order resolved a CFTC enforcement action in which the CFTC charged Thompson with knowingly or recklessly making false representations to two customers in connection with their purported purchase of Bitcoin [See CFTC Press Release No. 8023-19].

CFTC Financial Data For Futures Commission Merchants Update

Futures commission merchants (FCMs) and retail foreign exchange dealers (RFEDs) must file monthly financial reports with the CFTC's Division of Swap Dealer and Intermediary Oversight (DSIO) within 17 business days after the end of the month. Selected financial information from these reports is published below. The most recent month-end information generally is added within 12 business days after FCMs and RFEDs file their reports, but occasionally may be added later. For example: The 17th business day filing “due date" for February 28, 2015 financial reports was March 25, 2015. The 12 business day target for posting these data was April 10, 2015.

OCC Clears New Annual Exchange-Listed Options Industry Volume Record - September 2020 Total Volume Up 65.7 Percent From A Year Ago – Highest September Ever

OCC, the world’s largest equity derivatives clearing organization, announced today that September 2020 total cleared contract volume was 670,994,045 contracts, bringing total cleared contract volume to-date to 5,453,292,830 for 2020 and surpassing the annual volume record for the U.S. exchange-listed options industry. The previous record was 5.24 billion cleared contracts in 2018.
