Readout: US Secretary Of The Treasury Janet L. Yellen’s Meeting With Finance Ministers From Australia, Canada, New Zealand, And The United Kingdom

U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet L. Yellen hosted a meeting with finance ministers of the “Five Finance Ministries”, which includes Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. The ministers reviewed the economic response to the COVID-19 pandemic and progress on increasing vaccination rates to save lives and support the economic recovery. Secretary Yellen emphasized to her Five Finance Minister counterparts the importance of addressing the vulnerabilities in global supply chains revealed by the pandemic and Ministers agreed on the importance of collaboration among partners and allies to bolster economic resilience.

I want to note at the outset that I appreciate all the work this organization does to support structured data, including enhancing the usefulness of the data in SEC filings. The work you do benefits the users of that data, including investors, academics, and of course, the SEC staff and other regulators. You have been vocal and energetic advocates for XBRL, and I appreciate that. So thank you.

IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva Proposes Appointment of Mr. Kenji Okamura as Deputy Managing Director

Ms. Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), announced today to the Executive Board of the IMF her proposal to appoint Mr. Kenji Okamura as Deputy Managing Director, effective December 3, 2021. Mr. Okamura currently serves the Government of Japan as Special Advisor to the Prime Minister on International Economic Policies. He will fill the vacancy created by the departure of Mitsuhiro Furusawa, who, as previously announced, steps down on November 30.

FIA Statement On European Commissioner Mairead McGuinness Statement Today On Equivalence

FIA Head of Europe Bruce Savage commenting on today’s announcement by Commissioner Mairead McGuinness that the European Commission will propose an extension of equivalence for UK CCPs in early 2022, said:
“FIA welcomes today’s announcement by Commissioner Mairead McGuinness that the European Commission will propose an extension of equivalence for UK CCPs in early 2022 to safeguard financial stability and avoid a cliff edge for EU market participants. FIA is pleased that the Commission has listened to industry concerns and provided early clarity to prevent negative financial, commercial and operational impacts on EU counterparties and clearing members. This will enable continued access to global pools of liquidity. FIA supports the growth of competitive, efficient and safe markets globally, and we look forward to working with the Commission in 2022 on measures to grow EU financial markets.”
