SEC Uncovers $194 Million Penny Stock Schemes That Spanned Three Continents - 16 Defendants Charged In International ‘Pump And Dump’ Plots

The Securities and Exchange Commission today announced charges against 16 defendants, located in the Bahamas, the British Virgin Islands, Bulgaria, Canada, the Cayman Islands, Monaco, Spain, Turkey, and the United Kingdom, for participating in multi-year fraudulent penny stock schemes that generated more than $194 million in illicit proceeds. The SEC investigations leading to these charges involved assistance from securities regulators and other law enforcement authorities in more than 20 countries and are associated, in part, with parallel criminal actions announced by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York.

US Department Of Justice: Former CFO Of Publicly Traded Brazilian Company Charged In Fraud Scheme

A superseding indictment was unsealed today in the Southern District of Iowa charging the former Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of publicly traded reinsurance company, IRB Brasil Resseguros SA, aka IRB Brasil RE (IRB), for fraudulently propping up its stock price by spreading false information that U.S. investment firm Berkshire Hathaway Inc. had invested in IRB.

IMF Executive Board Approves Establishment Of The Resilience And Sustainability Trust

- The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) approved the establishment of the Resilience and Sustainability Trust (RST) to help countries build resilience to external shocks and ensure sustainable growth, contributing to their long-term balance of payments stability.
- The RST will complement the IMF’s existing lending toolkit by focusing on longer-term structural challenges – including climate change and pandemic preparedness – that entail significant macroeconomic risks and where policy solutions have a strong global public good nature.
- About three quarters of the IMF’s membership will be eligible for longer-term affordable financing from the RST, including all low-income countries, all developing and vulnerable small states, and lower middle-income countries.

Shenzhen Stock Exchange Solicits Public Opinions On The Guidelines For The Newly Acquired Project Of Infrastructure REITs

On April 15, SZSE publicly solicited opinions from the market with respect to No. 3 Guidelines for Public Infrastructure Securities Investment Fund Business-Newly Acquired Infrastructure Project (Provisional) (Exposure Draft) (hereinafter referred to as the Newly Acquired Infrastructure Project Guidelines) according to the unified arrangement of CSRC. The Exposure Draft sets out specific arrangements (such as additional share offering, information disclosure, decision-making and review & approval) for the newly acquired infrastructure project of public listed infrastructure REITs (hereinafter referred to as infrastructure REITs). This is another move of SZSE to conscientiously carry out the requirements for promoting the sound development of infrastructure REITs as stated in the outline of the 14th Five-Year Plan, make further progress in the trial of infrastructure REITs, further improve the ability of the capital market to serve the real economy, and better facilitate virtuous cycle of infrastructure investment and financing.

Currency.com, the high-growth global crypto exchange, has today confirmed it was the target of a failed distributed “denial of service” (DDoS) cyber-attack. The DDoS attack was attempted on Tuesday, 12 April. The attack was unsuccessful and no customer accounts or data were compromised during the incident.
