American Stock Exchange Reports Decrease In Short Interest

The American Stock Exchange (Amex) member and non-member organizations yesterday reported short interest of 630,874,140 shares as of the December 15 settlement date, a decrease of 8,728,189 from the 639,602,329 (adjusted) shares reported in mid-November. The December figure represents trades through December 10, 2004.

UK's Financial Services Authority Fines Robert Bonnier £290,000 And Indigo Capital £65,000 For Market Abuse

The Financial Services Authority (FSA) has today fined Mr Robert Bonnier £290,000 and Indigo Capital LLC (Indigo) £65,000 respectively for issuing materially inaccurate statements which created a false or misleading impression amounting to market abuse.

Standard & Poor’s Announces Changes To U.S. Indices

S&P MidCap 400 constituent XTO Energy Inc. (NYSE:XTO) will replace PeopleSoft Inc. (NASD:PSFT) in the S&P 500 after the close of trading on Tuesday, December 28. PeopleSoft is being acquired by S&P 500 constituent Oracle Corp. (NASD:ORCL) in a deal expected to close on or about that date, pending final approval. Advance Auto Parts Inc. (NYSE:AAP) will replace XTO Energy in the S&P MidCap 400.

New York Mercantile Exchange To Increase Margins On Propane Futures Contracts

The New York Mercantile Exchange, Inc., will increase the margins on its propane futures contract at the close of business tomorrow to $2,000 from $1,500 for clearing members, to $2,200 from $1,650 for members, and to $2,700 from $2,025 for customers.

National Mercantile Exchange Increases Its Authorized Capital 2.25 Times

As a result of placing additional common shares, the National Mercantile Exchange increased its authorized capital from 1.4 million rubles to 3.15 million rubles. The report on the results of the additional issue of securities was registered by the regional branch of the RF Federal Securities Commission in Central Federal District 18 November 2004 (state registration number 1-01-38050-H-002D). Appropriate changes in the NAMEX Charter were registered by IMNS #3 of Moscow 6 December 2004.

NASD Fines H&R Block Financial Advisors $500,000 For Enabling Deceptive Market Timing, Orders Payment of $325,000 In Restitution - NASD Investigation Of Individuals Involved In Scheme Is Continuing

NASD announced today that it has censured and fined H&R Block Financial Advisors, Inc., $500,000 for enabling a hedge fund customer in its Orlando, FL branch office to engage in deceptive practices to market time mutual funds. NASD also ordered H&R Block to pay $325,000 to reimburse the affected funds.
