NYSE Liffe To Launch Equity Options On Mediq

Today NYSE Liffe announced that it will be introducing American-style options on the shares of the Dutch company Mediq N.V. from 6 October 2009. These new options (ticker symbol: MDQ) will expire on the third Friday of the contract month and will have initial lifetimes of 1, 2, 3, 6 and 9 months. Each Mediq option will represent 100 shares in Mediq and will be cleared via LCH.Clearnet SA. Liquidity in the options will be supported by All Options (PMM) and trading will take place on LIFF

Share Trading in September The value of average daily share trading amounted to ISK 438 billion, as compared to ISK 400 billion during the past 12-month period. The average number of trades per business day amounted to 207,232, as compared to 220,384 during the past 12-month period. The total market cap of listed companies at NASDAQ OMX Nordic Exchange amounted to ISK 106,352 billion, compared to ISK 83,089 billion in September 2008.

In September the number of equity trades represented the best monthly figure in 2009, up 33.3% from August at 3.06 million. Options on Stocks: quarterly record high, at 8.8 million contracts, up 131% from the same 2008 quarter. Trading volume on the Corporate Debt market since January came in at €2.87 trillion, up 92.7% from the same period a year earlier.
