  • SEC Action Halts Tire Recycling Scam

    The Securities and Exchange Commission has obtained emergency relief to stop an allegedly fraudulent scheme that raised over $7.2 million from investors who were told the money would be used in a business shredding and recycling used tires. However, as alleged in the SEC's complaint, the tire shredding equipment did not work, there was no reasonable basis for Merklinger's income and return figures, and the investors never received a dime from their investment.

  • ISE Reports Monthly Volume For July 2008

    The International Securities Exchange (ISE) today reported that in July 2008, its options exchange traded an average daily volume of 4.6 million contracts. The ISE Stock Exchange traded a record average daily volume of 94.1 million shares in the same period.

  • Osaka Securities Exchange And International Securities Exchange Terminate Memorandum Of Agreement

    The Osaka Securities Exchange Co., Ltd. (OSE) and International Securities Exchange Holdings, Inc. (ISE) today announced the termination of their Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to create a jointly owned equity options trading platform for the Japanese market. Given market developments in Japan, OSE has changed strategic direction to concentrate on strengthening its core business, and as such, elected to terminate the MOA that would have led to the establishment of a new joint venture with ISE.

    CME Group, the world's largest and most diverse derivatives exchange, today announced that July 2008 volume averaged 11.2 million contracts per day, with total volume for the month exceeding 245 million contracts. Compared with July 2007, volume was down 1 percent. A record 85 percent of contracts was traded electronically. Total monthly electronic volume increased 7 percent over July 2007, averaging 9.5 million contracts per day. Year-to-date 2008 volume through July averaged 12.2 million contr
