DGCX Year To Date Volume Crosses One Million Mark - Record Third Quarter Volume Confirms Growth

Dubai Gold & Commodities Exchange (DGCX) today announced that year to date volume has for the first time, passed a record-breaking one million contracts, up 52 per cent on last year. Higher trading activity was led by currencies, precious metals and crude oil.

Volatile market conditions contributed to very strong trading across the equity order books of the London Stock Exchange Group during September. £302.8 billion (€383.1 billion) worth of equity trading was carried out during the month, an increase of 24 per cent on September 2007, while the total number of trades increased 62 per cent to 27.1 million.

Key findings from IFSL’s annual report Financial Market Trends Europe vs.US 2008 show that in over half indicators - 10 out of 16 - financial markets in Europe grew more rapidly than the US in 2007. Over the longer period since 2001 activity in Europe rose relative to the US in 13 out of 18 markets.

In September 2008, the total volume of trading in all derivative instruments was 1.22 million instruments, the second highest monthly volume of trading in WSE history (the record-high volume of trading at 1.32 million instruments was recorded in January 2008). The number of open interest was 69 thousand instruments at the end of September.

A Chinese delegation from the Tsinghua University accompanied by Brazil’s former President, Fernando Henrique Cardoso, visited the Exchange on Thursday October 2nd. During the visit Exchange CEO Edemir Pinto proposed that discussions be initiated through the BM&FBOVESPA representative office in Shanghai, China, in order to enhance the general understanding of the Brazilian financial and capital markets with an emphasis on the hedge instruments used by the agribusiness industry.
