  • Update - Withholding Tax Rates For Greece In The S&P Indices

    Following last week’s release regarding Standard & Poor’s update to the foreign withholding tax rates for several countries, S&P announced today that it will not update Greece’s withholding tax rate at this time. The Greek Finance Ministry has postponed the change until April 2009. The foreign withholding tax rate will remain at zero. S&P will issue a notice announcing the effective date of the update to all S&P Greek and related indices once local regulators make the change official.

  • UK's Financial Services Authority Proposes To Extend Short Selling Disclosure Regime

    The Financial Services Authority (FSA) is today proposing to extend its temporary disclosure regime for significant net short positions in the stocks of UK financial sector companies until 30 June 2009.  Continuing to require disclosure will reduce the potential for abusive behaviour and disorderly markets.  The FSA is not proposing to renew its ban on short selling of these stocks but is prepared to reintroduce the ban without consultation if necessary.

    The London Metal Exchange (LME) achieved another record year in 2008 with over 113 million lots traded, representing a year-on-year increase of nearly 22%.
