PLUS Posts 112% Increase In December Trades - New Stock Exchange Continues Trading Gains Momentum

PLUS Markets Group, the new stock exchange for London, ended 2008 with trading activity up against last year’s trading figures. In December 2008, PLUS posted 439,603 bargains, a 112% increase in trades year over December 2007. The total number of shares traded was up 137% at 2.42 billion, while trade value rose 42% at £2.55 billion over the period.

The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) announced today that it has fined Leonard & Co. of Troy, MI, $225,000 for numerous violations, including the illegal sale of more than two million shares of penny stock on behalf of customers. FINRA also required the firm to retain an independent consultant to review its supervisory systems and procedures.

With this index, the Vienna Stock Exchange is the first stock exchange to calculate a sustainability index for Eastern Europe. Over the period December 1st – 31st 2008 the total trading volume on FORTS (Futures & Options on RTS) reached 378,1 billion roubles or 16,8 million contracts, including 98,7 bln. roubles in the evening trading session. At the end of the month the total open interest reached 38,1 billon roubles in money terms or 1,8 million contacts.
