RTS Stock Market Weekly Trading Results: January 19 – 23, 2009

Over the week of January 19 – January 23, 2009, the RTS Index went down by 12,10% to reach 498,20 points (566,77 points as of January 16, 2009). Most of the negative impact on the Index dynamics was related to the falling prices for Sberbank ordinary shares (SBER) (minus 16,15 points), OAO "LUKOIL" ordinary shares (LKOH) (minus 8,06 points) and Gazprom ordinary shares (GAZP) (minus 7,51 points).

Based on the close of trading on January 26, the global Dow Jones Islamic Market Titans 100 Index, which measures the performance of 100 of the leading Shari’ah compliant stocks globally, lost -5.55% month-to-date, closing at 1646.71. In comparison, the Dow Jones Global Titans 50 Index, which measures the 50 biggest companies worldwide, posted a loss of -9.00%, closing at 131.03.

Dubai Mercantile Exchange Announces Update In U.S. Tax Status: Qualification Under Section 1256 of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code Recognises DME as Qualified Board or Exchange

The Dubai Mercantile Exchange Limited (DME) announced today that the United States Internal Revenue Service (“IRS”) has issued a public ruling (Revenue Ruling 2009-4) that the DME is now recognized as a “qualified board or exchange” within the meaning of the Internal Revenue Code.

FTSE Group Acquires PBC To Further Strengthen Research Capability

Global index provider FTSE Group (FTSE), has completed the acquisition of Pensions Benchmark Corporation (PBC), a US-based quant business. FTSE will integrate PBC’s systems and database within its own operational framework to further expand its in-house research capabilities. PBC owner Tom Nadbielny joins FTSE as Quantitative Research Director, and will head the organisation’s three regional research teams, based in London, New York and Hong Kong.

CME Group And Johannesburg Stock Exchange To Cooperate On Corn Futures Contract

CME Group, the world's largest and most diverse derivatives exchange, today announced that they have signed an agreement with the JSE Ltd to license CME Group's benchmark corn futures settlement prices to create a new JSE cash-settled corn futures contract.
