Robert Merton And Myron Scholes, Nobel Laureates In Economic Sciences, Receive 2011 CME Group Fred Arditti Innovation Award

The CME Group Center for Innovation (CFI) today announced Robert C. Merton, School of Management Distinguished Professor of Finance at the MIT Sloan School of Management and Myron S. Scholes, chairman of the Board of Economic Advisors of Stamos Partners, are the 2011 CME Group Fred Arditti Innovation Award recipients. Both recipients are recognized for their significant contributions to the financial markets, including the discovery and development of the Black-Scholes options pricing model, used to determine the value of options derivatives. The award will be presented at the fourth annual Global Financial Leadership Conference in Naples, Fla., Monday, October 24.

I support the proposals we are considering today. I also support the IOSCO principles. Moving forward on global regulatory reforms is critical to guarding against regulatory arbitrage between international regulatory regimes. The IOSCO principles move that effort forward.

Bermuda Stock Exchange Marks 40 Years Of Trading And Growth

The Bermuda Stock Exchange (BSX) celebrated 40 years in business this year. Set up in February 1971, today it has more than 800 securities listed, including more than 360 funds, with a combined market capitalisation of more than $225 billion.

Swap Transaction Compliance and Implementation Schedule – Clearing and Trade Execution Requirements:
I support the proposed rule to establish schedules to phase in compliance with the clearing and trade execution requirement provisions in the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. The proposal would provide greater clarity to market participants regarding the timeframe for bringing their swap transactions into compliance with the clearing and trade execution requirements. The rule also would make the market more open and transparent, while giving market participants an adequate amount of time to comply. The proposed rule would help facilitate an orderly transition to a new regulatory environment for swaps.

Ahead of tomorrow’s meeting of the G-7 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors in Marseille, France, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, in an op-ed to be published in the September 9, 2011 edition of the Financial Times, outlines steps necessary for the world economy to regain momentum, including strengthening growth and employment at home through the President’s American Jobs Act package and forceful action by Europeans to generate confidence and quell instability. -

Good morning. This meeting will come to order. This is a public meeting of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to consider proposed rules under the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (Dodd-Frank Act). BASF of Germany, the U.K.’s Pearson PLC and PPG Industries Inc. of the U.S. will be added to the Dow Jones Islamic Market World Index, following a regular quarterly review, Dow Jones Indexes announced today.

CFTC Sues 11 Foreign Currency Firms In Second Nationwide Sweep Against Unregistered Firms - Cases Bring To 25 The Number Of Firms Sued By The CFTC For Failing To Register Under The 2008 Farm Bill, The Dodd-Frank Act And The CFTC’s Regulations.

The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) announced that it simultaneously filed 10 enforcement actions in Federal District Courts in Illinois, New York, Utah, and Wyoming, alleging that 11 entities are illegally soliciting members of the public to engage in foreign currency (forex) transactions and are operating without being registered with the CFTC. These cases follow on the CFTC’s January 26, 2011 filings against 14 other entities for similar violations (see CFTC Press Release 5974-11).

SEC Files Subpoena Enforcement Action Against Deloitte & Touche In Shanghai

The Securities and Exchange Commission today filed a subpoena enforcement action against Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu CPA Ltd. for failing to produce documents related to the SEC’s investigation into possible fraud by the Shanghai-based public accounting firm’s longtime client Longtop Financial Technologies Limited.
