“The Challenges For The Global Economy”: Opening Remarks At The Royal Institute For International Affairs - Chatham House By Christine Lagarde, Managing Director, International Monetary Fund
Date 10/09/2011
Good morning. It’s a pleasure to be here with you today, at this beautiful and historic venue. About six weeks ago, I spoke at a similar early morning event in New York, at the Council on Foreign Relations. These two sister organizations—founded in the wake of the Great War—have a common goal of fostering the ideas and dialogue needed to build a prosperous and secure world for all. Given the precarious state of the global economy, such dialogue is clearly essential. I wish to thank Chatham House for organizing this event, and thank my friend, Chancellor Osborne, for inviting me to speak. I look forward to hearing his views, as well as those of the eminent economists joining us at this roundtable.

Date 09/09/2011
To commemorate the tenth anniversary of the September 11 attacks, the FIA has posted on its website two articles from the September issue of Futures Industry on the impact of those attacks on the futures industry. The first article, which is based on reporting that originally appeared in Futures Industry in the fall of 2001, describes the extraordinary efforts by firms and exchanges to cope with the destruction of the World Trade Center towers and reopen the New York futures markets the following week. The second article contains profiles of more than 75 people with connections to the futures industry who died that day, drawn from obituaries and memorials that were published in the New York Times, the New York Daily News, Newsday, the Chicago Tribune and several other publications. On the tenth anniversary of the attacks, we once again express our condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of the thousands of victims of the 9/11 tragedy.
