- The highest monthly value of trading in shares, volume of trading in index contracts and options in 2012 reported in March;
- The total value of trading in shares on the Main Market in Q1 2012 (PLN 59.3 billion) decreased by 12.6% year on year;
- A growing value of trading on the WSE debt markets: Catalyst (session trading) and Treasury BondSpot Poland (cash transactions) reported the highest monthly and quarterly turnover;
- The monthly volume of spot transactions on the WSE electricity markets reached 1.77 TWh as compared to 1.84 TWh in March 2011;
- The highest ever quarterly volume of transactions in property rights for certificates issued under certificates of origin for energy

EBS Appoints New Global Head Of Product Development And Global Head Of EBS Spot Platform And Market Risk

EBS, the world’s leading FX trading platform, announced today that it has appointed Nichola Hunter Global Head of Product Management, responsible for defining and executing EBS’s product strategy and for directing the product development process. EBS also announced that John Schoen has been appointed Global Head of EBS Spot Platform and Market Risk, a new role reporting to Nichola, in which he will lead EBS’s efforts to ensure the continuous delivery of the most reliable source of genuine liquidity to the market.

UK's Financial Services Agency Decides To Fine Ian Hannam Chairman Of Capital Markets At J P Morgan Cazenove For Market Abuse

The Financial Services Authority (FSA) has today published a Decision Notice for Ian Hannam, the Chairman of Capital Markets at J P Morgan Cazenove. The Decision Notice indicates that the FSA has decided to fine Hannam £450,000 for market abuse.

Alan Whiting To Succeed Hugh Freedberg As Chairman Of NYSE Liffe

NYSE Liffe today announced that Alan Whiting will succeed Hugh Freedberg as the new non-executive Chairman1 of the company’s global derivatives business. Mr Whiting’s appointment will take effect from May 1, 2012. Mr Freedberg who previously served as CEO of NYSE Liffe from 1998 to 2009 is retiring from his role as Chairman, which he has held since 2009.

In Q1/2012 the total turnover of both market places, XONTRO and Equiduct, reached 11.5 bn. Euro (vs. 11.6 bn. Euro in Q4/2011). In the same period the number of trades added up to 1.84 m compared to 1.83 m in Q4/2011.

Maibaum Leaves EEX

The Managing Director Exchange and Senior Vice President Customer Relations Oliver Maibaum will leave European Energy Exchange (EEX) on his own request and resigns from all his offices at EEX Group with immediate effect. After 12 years of co-operation with the EEX, Maibaum will take up a new challenge in the energy sector.

In a new survey entitled “What Asset-Liability Strategy for Sovereign Wealth Funds?” produced as part of a research chair supported by Deutsche Bank, Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF) respondents have underlined the need for a change in investment practices to take into account both short-term constraints and liabilities. The survey presents the results of the Deutsche Bank research chair’s foundation paper – a dynamic asset-liability management (ALM)model developed to guide asset allocation and risk management decisions at the SWF level, and describes the results of a call for reaction on its theoretical and practical appeal for sovereign fund management.
