Three Commissioners, constituting a majority of the Commission, have informed me that they will not support a staff proposal to reform the structure of money market funds. The proposed structural reforms were intended to reduce their susceptibility to runs, protect retail investors and lessen the need for future taxpayer bailouts.

Rarely do issues come our way that are this “outside the box,” and the staff’s dedication and creativity throughout the rule-writing process are a tribute to the agency’s professionalism. I also want to recognize the many commenters I have met with on this topic over the nine months since I returned as a Commissioner. Many of these groups are represented by incredibly passionate and intelligent people, and with respect to the proponents of Dodd-Frank Section 1502, it is encouraging that these folks have dedicated their careers and are applying their talents for such noble causes.
