Singapore Exchange (SGX) operates a centralised electronic marketplace for trading, clearing and settling securities and derivative products. The trading which takes place and the prices established in the market enable issuers to value their businesses and raise capital, enable investors to make decisions on which securities to buy or sell and also enable those exposed to various risks to find a means of transferring that risk to other parties. The after-trade processes of clearing and settling the financial and delivery obligations of buyers and sellers ensure that participants can enter the market with the confidence that their transactions will be completed.

Changes To The Monetary Authority Of Singapore Board Of Directors

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) announced that Mr Quek See Tiat will be appointed to its Board of Directors. Mr Quek’s term of appointment will be from 1 March 2013 to 31 May 2015. Mr Quek is the Chairman of the Building and Construction Authority, and is also a Board Member of the Energy Market Authority and Neptune Orient Lines Group. He was formerly the Deputy Chairman of PricewaterhouseCoopers Singapore.

At the end of the settlement date of February 15, 2013, short interest in 2,134 NASDAQ Global MarketSM securities totaled 6,962,737,646 shares compared with 6,829,640,401 shares in 2,139 Global Market issues reported for the prior settlement date of January 31, 2013. The mid-February short interest represents 3.67 days average daily NASDAQ Global Market share volume for the reporting period, compared with 3.90 days for the prior reporting period.

Middlebrooks of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida entered a Preliminary Injunction Order against Defendants Hunter Wise Commodities, LLC; Hunter Wise Services, LLC; Hunter Wise Credit, LLC; Hunter Wise Trading, LLC; Lloyds Commodities, LLC; Lloyds Commodities Credit Company, LLC; Lloyds Services, LLC;C.D. Hopkins Financial, LLC; Hard Asset Lending Group, LLC; Blackstone Metals Group, LLC; Newbridge Alliance, Inc.; United States Capital Trust, LLC; Harold Edward Martin, Jr.; Fred Jager; James Burbage; Frank Gaudino;Baris Keser; Chadewick Hopkins; John King; and David A. Moore that prohibits the Defendants from offering investments in physical metals to the retail public.

CalPERS And Apple Shareholders Show United Support For Apple's Future Direction - CalPERS Message To Apple Is To Keep Calm And Carry On

The California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) today issued the following statement in response to a rally by shareholders to support good governance practices:
“The fact that Proposal No. 2 received 98 percent approval from more than 55 percent of shareholders is a ringing endorsement of Apple's plans,” said Anne Simpson, CalPERS director of global governance. “A message was sent and it’s one of emphatic support for shareholder rights. CalPERS will continue to support the elements of this proposal and encourage shareholders to approve them when the company introduces them again."

Steven J. Randich Named FINRA's Chief Information Officer

The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) announced today that Steven J. Randich, currently Citigroup's Co-Chief Information Officer (CIO), will join the organization as Executive Vice President and CIO. Randich will oversee technology at FINRA, as well as FINRA's Registration and Disclosure division. Randich will start at FINRA on March 11.
