CFTC Issues Amended Registration Order For Natural Gas Exchange Inc

On March 20, 2013, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission issued an amended order of registration as a derivatives clearing organization (“DCO”) to the Natural Gas Exchange Inc. (“NGX”). NGX, a registered DCO since 2008, had requested that the Commission expand the scope of products it is authorized to clear and permit it to continue using an accrual accounting methodology for daily settlement.

European Commission delegated regulations 148/2013 to 153/2013 supplementing the European “EMIR” regulation 648/2012 on over-the-counter derivatives, central counterparties and trade repositories were published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 23 February 2013. They enter into force on 15 March 2013.

Following the notification of the Hellenic Capital Market Commission by the Cyprus Capital Market Commission regarding the decision to continue the suspension of trading of all listed securities on the Cyprus Stock Exchange and upon its request, ATHEX, following the relevant request of the Hellenic Capital Market Commission, decided the continuation of the suspension of trading of the shares of the companies "BANK OF CYPRUS PUBLIC COMPANY LTD" and "CYPRUS POPULAR BANK PUBLIC CO LTD" on ATHEX, for March 21 and March 22, 2013 (included).

Statement By Commissioner Michel Barnier Following The Agreement In Trilogue On New European Rules To Impose Stronger Prudential Requirements On Banks

I welcome the final agreement reached last night on a package that sets stronger prudential requirements for banks, requiring them to keep sufficient capital reserves and liquidity. The final deal builds on the elements that were identified in the trilogue of 27th February (seeMEMO/13/155). After the agreement on the Single Supervisory Mechanism two days ago (see MEMO/13/251), we are taking another fundamental step towards a genuine Banking Union, which will contribute to securing the stability of European banks and benefit our economies at large.
