FINRA Board Approves Amendment To Supervision Rule Requiring Firms To Conduct Background Checks On Registration Applicants

The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) announced today that its Board of Governors approved amendments to FINRA's supervision rule that would expand the obligations of firms to check the background of applicants for registration, including first-time applications as well as transfers, to verify the accuracy and completeness of the information contained in an applicant's Form U4. Firms would also be required to adopt written procedures in this area that include searching public records.

• First quarter 2014 net revenues1 were a record $529 million, up 27% from the prior year quarter.
• Achieved 9% organic revenue growth2 year-over-year and had organic growth in all segments: Information Services, Market Services, Technology Solutions, and Listing Services.
• Generated record first quarter 2014 non-GAAP diluted EPS of $0.72, which was 13% higher year-over-year. First quarter 2014 GAAP diluted EPS was $0.59. Non-transaction based revenues were 72% of our total first quarter 2014 net revenues, and increased 27% from the prior year quarter.
