Venture-Backed IPO Exit Activity Extends Streak Of 20+ Offerings For Fifth Consecutive Quarter - Average M&A Deal Size Falls To Lowest Level Since 2013

Twenty-eight venture-backed initial public offerings (IPOs) raised $4.9 billion during the second quarter of 2014, a 45 percent increase, by dollars raised, compared to the previous quarter, according to the Exit Poll report by Thomson Reuters and the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA). The second quarter marked the fifth consecutive quarter to see 20 or more venture-backed IPOs but below the strong performance of the first quarter, which marked the strongest three-month period for new listings since the third quarter of 2000.For the second quarter of 2014, 97 venture-backed M&A deals were reported, 33 of which had an aggregate deal value of $3.3 billion.This represents a 56 percent decrease in disclosed value from the first quarter of this year. Average deal size during the second quarter totaled $98.6 million, the lowest average deal size since the first quarter of 2013.

FINRA Fines Goldman Sachs Execution & Clearing, L.P. $800,000 For Failing To Prevent Trade-Throughs In Its Alternative Trading System

The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) announced today that it has fined Goldman Sachs Execution & Clearing, L.P. $800,000 for failing to have reasonably designed written policies and procedures in place to prevent trade-throughs of protected quotations in NMS stocks from November 2008 through August 2011 in connection with trading in its proprietary alternative trading system, SIGMA-X.

CFTC Staff Extends Time-Limited, No-Action Relief For Swap Dealers And Major Swap Participants From Compliance With Reporting Obligations

The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s (Commission) Division of Market Oversight (Division) recently issued a no-action letter extending until June 30, 2015 the relief previously provided in no-action letter 13-34, expiring on June 30, 2014. The relief is provided to Swap Dealers (SDs) and Major Swap Participants (MSPs) from the obligation to report valuation data for cleared swaps as required by Section 45.4(b)(2)(ii) of the Commission’s regulations.

The value of average daily share trading amounted to EUR 2.3 billion, compared to EUR 2.4 billion during the past 12-month period. The average number of trades per trading day was 305,055 compared to 327,080 during the past 12-month period. The total market cap of listed companies at NASDAQ OMX Nordic Exchange amounted to EUR 982 billion, compared to EUR 792 billion in June 2013. -
EPEX Spot: Power Trading Results In June 2014 - 15-Minute Volume Surges To All-Time High

In June 2014, a total volume of 30 TWhwas traded on EPEX SPOT’s Day-Ahead and Intraday markets (June 2013: 28.4 TWh). The volume in 15-minute contracts on the German and Swiss Intraday markets reached another all-time high and climbed to 449,494 MWh. It is a 4 % increase from the previous record in May 2014 (430,740 MWh). In June, they represented 20.7% – more than one fifth – of the volume traded on the German and Swiss Intraday markets. The increasing liquidity of the 15-minute segment sets a strong foundation for the upcoming German Intraday call auction for 15-minute contracts. This auction, scheduled to launch in Q4 2014, will take place seven days a week and will help determining a clear cut price signal for 15-minute contracts in Germany.
