The ETF/ETP Industry In Canada Gathered A Record Level Of 2.7 Billion US Dollars In Net New Assets In December 2014 According To ETFGI

ETFGI’s research finds the ETF/ETP industry in Canada gathered a record level of 2.7 billion US dollars in net new asset (NNA) in December 2014. During 2014 net inflows totalled US$9.2 billion. At the end of December 2014, the Canadian ETF industry had 341 ETFs, with 475 listings, assets of US$66 Bn, from 9 providers listed on 1 exchange, according to preliminary data from ETFGI’s end December 2014 Global ETF and ETP industry insights report.

Key highlights for the week ending 9 January 2015
- The SFI gained 0.84% to an all-time high of 120.32.
- YTD, the SFI currently outperforms the STI by 1.45% (+0.66% vs. -0.79%)
- Government bonds (SFI Government Bond Index) gained 1.20%, reaching an all-time high of 118.54. Corporate bonds (SFI Corporate Bond Index) also closed the week higher (+0.27%), reversing last week’s losses.
- 2014 was a record year for debt securities listings on SGX. Of the 149 bond issuances in 2014, 73% were listed on SGX (2013: 140 bond issuances; 58% listed on SGX).
- The 3-month SIBOR has risen 49% since 1 December 2014 to its current value of 0.639%, the highest value since 16 April 2010 (0.659%). The exchange rate between the Singapore Dollar and US Dollar on 5 January 2015 (1.336) hit a level not seen since 20 September 2010 (1.334).

Virtu Financial Becomes A Participant Of GMEX Exchange - Virtu Financial To Become A Liquidity Provider At Launch

Global Markets Exchange Group Limited (GMEX) announced today that leading global electronic market maker Virtu Financial (Virtu) will become a liquidity provider. Virtu Financial will join as a participant of GMEX Exchange, which will be operated by GMEX, to offer liquidity in GMEX’s pioneering Interest Rate Swap Constant Maturity Future (CMF) contracts. Orders will be matched on the GMEX exchange platform, with trade confirmation and clearing occurring at Eurex.

ETFGI’s research finds ETFs/ETPs listed in Asia Pacific (ex-Japan) had net outflows of US$165 million in December 2014, and during 2014 ETFs/ETPs gathered net new asset inflows of US$2.6 Bn. At the end of December 2014, the Asia Pacific (ex-Japan) ETF/ETP industry had 597 ETFs/ETPs, with 731 listings, assets of US$118.3 Bn, from 107 providers listed on 17 exchanges, according to preliminary data from ETFGI’s end December 2014 Global ETF and ETP industry insights report.

UBS Extends Use Of Orc’s Electronic Execution Solution To Expand DMA Business

Orc, a global leader in derivatives trading technology, today announced that UBS Securities (UBS) has extended its broad usage of Orc’s Electronic Execution solution to facilitate DMA on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME). 2014 proved to be a very good year for the ETF/ETP industry in Japan. ETFs/ETPs listed in Japan gathered a record level of 5.4 billion US dollars in net new assets in December and a record level of 16.3 billion US dollars in NNA in 2014 according to ETFGI. At the end of December 2014, the Japanese ETF/ETP industry had 146 ETFs/ETPs, with 191 listings, assets of US$90 Bn, from 18 providers listed on 2 exchanges according to preliminary data from ETFGI’s end December 2014 Global ETF and ETP industry insights report.
