Introduction
It is difficult to overstate the importance of the municipal securities market. There is perhaps no other market that so profoundly influences the quality of our daily lives. Municipal securities provide financing to build and maintain schools, hospitals, and utilities, as well as the roads and other basic infrastructure that enable our economy to flourish. Municipal bonds’ tax-free status also makes them an important investment vehicle for individual investors, particularly retirees. Ensuring the existence of a vibrant and efficient municipal bond market is essential, particularly at a time when state and local government budgets remain stretched.

EU Council Backs European Commission Proposal To Fight Against The Manipulation Of Financial Benchmarks

The EU has today taken a further step towards restoring public trust in financial benchmarks in the wake of recent scandals over the manipulation of the LIBOR and EURIBOR benchmarks. In a move welcomed by the European Commission, the Council has given its backing to new proposed rules to enhance the robustness and reliability of benchmarks, which are used in financial instruments (e.g. bonds, shares, futures or swaps) and financial contracts (e.g. mortgages or consumer contracts) in the EU. The Commission proposed new standards in September 2013 after it emerged that some benchmarks had been manipulated, resulting in multi-million euro fines on several banks in Europe and in the US.

Platts China Steel Sentiment Index Plunged In February - Sentiment Fell As Steel Sector Slowed Before Chinese New Year

The outlook for China’s steel market for the next 30 days is down on the back of weaker expectations for new domestic and export orders ahead of the long Chinese New Year holiday, according to the latest Platts China Steel Sentiment Index (Platts CSSI), which reflects market participants’ expectations.
