  • Financial Stability Oversight Council Releases Statement On Review Of Asset Management Products And Activities

    The Financial Stability Oversight Council (Council) today voted unanimously to release astatement providing a public update on its review of potential risks to U.S. financial stability that may arise from asset management products and activities.  The statement details the Council’s views regarding potential financial stability risks and next steps to respond to these potential risks.  The Council’s evaluation of risks focused on the following areas: (1) liquidity and redemption; (2) leverage; (3) operational functions; (4) securities lending; and (5) resolvability and transition planning.

  • CalPERS Sets Path To Review Divestment - Policy Would Set Standards For Review, Tobacco To Be Evaluated Separately

    The California Public Employees’ Retirement System’s (CalPERS) Board of Administration (Board) today laid out a path to review all of the System’s existing divestment initiatives, including tobacco. Based on directions given to CalPERS staff, the Board will consider reinvestment in tobacco after thorough review, study, and stakeholder input. The process is expected to take between 12 and 24 months and will culminate with a decision in early 2018. All non-tobacco divestments will be reviewed according to a new loss threshold policy, to be developed during the same time period.

    I support the publication of the Council’s Update Statement on its review of asset management products and activities for potential financial stability risks. The summary of analysis set forth in the update gives a current snapshot of FSOC’s work in this area, which the Council is making public today.  I commend that transparency and the tireless work of the staff that has led to today’s update. 

  • SIFMA’s Ken Bentsen Delivers Opening Remarks At Green Finance Symposium

    SIFMA president and CEO Kenneth E. Bentsen, Jr., delivered opening remarks today at a symposium entitled “Green Finance: A Growing Imperative.” The event was co-hosted by the Paulson Institute, the Green Finance Committee (GFC), China Society for Finance and Banking under The People’s Bank of China’s (PBOC), the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA), UNEP and Bloomberg Philanthropies.  Bentsen was followed by Paulson Institute Chairman Henry M.   • Remarks By US Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew At A Meeting Of The Financial Stability And Oversight Council

    At today’s meeting, the Council will provide an update on our review of potential risks from asset management products and activities.  Patrick Pinschmidt, the Executive Director of the Council, will discuss the Council’s review and describe the public statement the Council will consider for release.
