ACER Board Of Appeal Appoints Andris Piebalgs As Its Chairman

The recently appointed members and alternates of the ACER’s Board of Appeal (BoA) met for the first time in Ljubljana on 17 November 2016 and designated Mr Andris Piebalgs as Chairman and Mr Jean-Yves Ollier as Vice Chairman of the BoA  for a two and a half year term.

On 1 March 2017, Deutsche Börse will launch a new exchange segment designed to enhance access to investors and growth capital for smaller and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). As a segment of the exchange-regulated market, it will replace the Entry Standard for equities and corporate bonds. The General Standard and the Prime Standard will remain as Regulated Market segments.

Notwithstanding a number of shocks over the past year, the U.S. economy is performing reasonably well. Job gains have been robust in recent years, and the unemployment rate has declined to 4.9 percent, likely close to its long-run sustainable level. After running at a subdued pace during the first half of the year, gross domestic product growth has picked up in the most recent data, and inflation has been firming toward the Federal Open Market Committee's 2 percent target.

Eris Exchange (Eris) and an institutional fixed income brokerage group at R.J. O'Brien & Associates(RJO), the nation's oldest and largest independent futures brokerage and clearing firm, today released another third-party accounting case study outlining how Eris Interest Rate Swap Futures can receive the same favorable hedge accounting treatment as that applied to over-the-counter (OTC) swaps. Following up on the case study released last month addressing cash flow hedge treatment, the RJO Fixed Income Group commissioned the latest study, concluding that Eris Swap Futures may successfully receive fair value hedge accounting treatment and providing a concrete example of how to achieve hedge effectiveness.

Bank Of England Consultation On Restoring The Deposit Protection Limit To £85,000

The Bank of England is consulting on plans to restore the limit of protection provided by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) to deposits with firms authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) to £85,000. The protection limit is currently £75,000. It would be raised from 30 January 2017, but firms would have until 30 June 2017 to implement the necessary changes to systems and materials.
