Barclays Responds To The US Department Of Justice's Announcement - Complaint Filed By United States Department Of Justice

Barclays notes the Complaint filed by the United States Department of Justice (“DoJ”) today in the US District Court for the Eastern District of New York. The Complaint relates to the DoJ’s investigation of certain activities of Barclays in respect of US residential mortgage-backed securities in the period 2005-2007. The Complaint is a civil claim that makes a number of allegations, including mail and wire fraud. Amongst other relief, the Complaint seeks unspecified monetary penalties.

Deutsche Bank Agrees On Settlement In Principle With The DoJ Regarding RMBS

Deutsche Bank AG (XETRA: DBKGn.DE / NYSE: DB) has reached a settlement in principle with the Department of Justice in the United States (“DoJ”) regarding civil claims that the DoJ considered in connection with the bank’s issuance and underwriting of residential mortgage-backed securities (RMBS) and related securitization activities between 2005 and 2007. Under the terms of the settlement agreement, Deutsche Bank agreed to pay a civil monetary penalty of US dollar 3.1 billion and to provide US dollar 4.1 billion in consumer relief in the United States. The consumer relief is expected to be primarily in the form of loan modifications and other assistance to homeowners and borrowers, and other similar initiatives to be determined, and delivered over a period of at least five years.

Dalian Commodity Exchange: Road Show Held For Inspection And Quarantine Regulation On Imported Futures Soybean

On November 15, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) issued the trial reform measures for regulating the inspection and quarantine for the futures delivery of imported soybean. In order to accelerate the implementation of the policy, based on the requirements of the AQSIQ, Liaoning Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau (Liaoning Bureau for short) and Dalian Commodity Exchange (DCE) jointly held the road show for the regulation on the inspection and quarantine for imported futures soybean on December 7, interpreted the reform measures, and performed walkthrough to test the specific soybean delivery procedures and the planned contract rule amendment.

Eden Martin, among CBOE Holdings' longest serving Board members, have notified CBOE Holdings that they intend to step down from CBOE Holdings' Board of Directors upon the closing of the CBOE Holdings acquisition of Bats Global Markets, Inc. (Bats: BATS). Their resignations are conditioned upon the transaction closing.

United States Sues Barclays Bank To Recover Civil Penalties For Fraud In The Sale Of Residential Mortgage-Backed Securities - Two Former Barclays Executives Also Named In Suit

The United States Department of Justice today filed a civil complaint in the Eastern District of New York against Barclays Bank PLC and several of its United States affiliates (together, Barclays), alleging that Barclays engaged in a fraudulent scheme to sell residential mortgage-backed securities (RMBS) supported by defective and misrepresented mortgage loans. As alleged in the complaint, from 2005 to 2007, Barclays personnel repeatedly misrepresented the characteristics of the loans backing securities they sold to investors throughout the world, who incurred billions of dollars in losses as a result of the fraudulent scheme. The suit also names as defendants two former Barclays executives: Paul K. Menefee, of Austin, Texas, who served as Barclays’ head banker on its subprime RMBS securitizations, and John T. Carroll, of Port Washington, New York, who served as Barclays’ head trader for subprime loan acquisitions.
