Statement Of CFTC Commissioner Quintenz On Treasury Report On Capital Markets

Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Commissioner Brian Quintenz released the following statement on the Treasury Department’s second report on the Administration’s core principles of financial regulation:

“The United States has the largest, deepest, and most liquid financial markets in the world. Derivatives are used in virtually every segment of the U.S. and global economies, covering nearly every conceivable type of commodity. It is for this reason that it is so important that we get the oversight of these markets right so that market participants - from farmers to multinational companies - have the necessary tools to appropriately manage their risk."

FSB Discusses 2018 Workplan And Next Steps On Evaluations Of Effects Of Reforms

The Financial Stability Board (FSB) Plenary met in Berlin today.

FSB’s workplan for 2017-18

The FSB reviewed its workplan for the remainder of 2017 and 2018. In this context, Argentina’s Plenary members briefed the meeting on the potential themes for the finance track of the Argentine G20 Presidency in 2018.

The work coordinated by the FSB to agree the international post-crisis policy reform agenda is nearly complete. Nevertheless, in cases, important policies have yet to be fully operationalised.

ACER: Continued Gas Wholesale Market Integration, But Electricity Market Integration At Risk

The latest ACER-CEER Market Monitoring Report (MMR), whose wholesale and retail volumes were published today, shows that for electricity wholesale markets the limited amount of cross-zonal capacity made available for trading by TSOs is one of the most significant barriers to further market integration in Europe. Ensuring the equal treatment of internal - within bidding-zones - and cross-zonal exchanges, as well as increasing the level of TSO coordination, are utmost priorities to overcome this situation.

Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Commissioner Rostin Behnam released the following statement on the Treasury Department’s second report on the Administration’s core principles of financial regulation:

Unregulated, over the counter derivatives played a significant role in the financial crisis. Thoughtful derivatives market reform was a critical first step to ensure that American businesses and workers never experience the losses suffered since 2008." 

Treasury Releases Second Report On The Administration’s Core Principles Of Financial Regulation - Report Outlines Ways To Streamline & Reduce Burdens Of Capital Markets Regulation

Today the U.S. Department of the Treasury released a report detailing how to streamline and reform the U.S. regulatory system for the capital markets. Treasury’s evaluation of current capital market regulations found that there are significant reforms that can be undertaken to promote growth and vibrant financial markets while maintaining strong investor protections. The report issued today was in response to Executive Order 13772 issued by President Trump on February 3rd, which  calls on Treasury to identify laws and regulations that are inconsistent with a set of Core Principles of financial regulation.
