SET's Board Elects Prasarn Trairatvorakul As SET’s 17th Chairman, Effective From Feb 5

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET)'s Board of Governors (BoG) today resolved to elect Prasarn Trairatvorakul as the 17th Chairman of the Board to succeed Chaiyawat Wibulswasdi whose term has ended, as well as to name Pichet Sithi-Amnuai as Vice Chairman. The current BoG has a three-year tenure, effective from today to February 4, 2024.

CFFEX Issues Measures On The Management Of Actual Control Accounts

To strengthen frontline supervision of accounts involving actual control relationship (“actual control accounts”), China Financial Futures Exchange (CFFEX) issues on February 5, 2021 the Measures on the Management of Actual Control Accounts of China Financial Futures Exchange (the “Measures”), which will take effect on February 8, 2021. The Guidelines on the Reporting of Actual Control Accounts of China Financial Futures Exchange (Provisional) will be abolished simultaneously.

Secretary of the Treasury Janet L. Yellen convened a meeting with the heads of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Federal Reserve Board, Federal Reserve Bank of New York, and Commodity Futures Trading Commission to discuss recent financial market volatility. They discussed market functionality and recent trading practices in equity, commodity and related markets. The regulators believe the core infrastructure was resilient during high volatility and heavy trading volume and agree on the importance of the SEC releasing a timely study of the events. Further, the SEC and CFTC are reviewing whether trading practices are consistent with investor protection and fair and efficient markets.

New York Attorney General Letitia James today filed a lawsuit against a New York private equity fund manager and five co-defendants for defrauding investors across the country out of more than $700 million through a Ponzi-like scheme that offered to pay investors generous monthly distributions they could never deliver. The suit — filed against New York City based investment advisor GPB Capital Holdings, LLC; two related entities involved in marketing the funds, Ascendant Capital and Ascendant Alternative Strategies; and three individuals, David Gentile, Jeffry Schneider, and Jeffrey Lash — charges the defendants with devising and executing a fraudulent scheme to enrich themselves at the expense of investors without ever delivering a profit to those who invested in the funds. Thousands of investors across the nation invested more than $1.8 billion in GPB funds, including more than 1,400 New Yorkers who invested more than $150 million, on promises of profits on private equity investments in portfolio companies that included automotive dealerships and waste management companies.
