  • Readout: US Treasury Deputy Secretary Wally Adeyemo Met With the Payments Leadership Council

    Today, Deputy Secretary Wally Adeyemo met virtually with CEOs from seven U.S.-based payment companies and representatives from the Payments Leadership Council (PLC) to discuss the important role electronic payments and financial inclusion play in our economic recovery.  Deputy Secretary Adeyemo reiterated how critical it is that businesses and government work together toward a swift and inclusive economic recovery. In particular, Adeyemo stressed that the recovery must address the economic inequalities that existed before, but have been exacerbated by, the pandemic. Additionally, Deputy Secretary Adeyemo applauded PLC members for working with the Treasury Department to distribute more than 130 million Economic Impact Payments as rapidly as possible, and for devising innovative ways to distribute payments to underbanked and unbanked individuals. The group also discussed how the American Jobs Plan and infrastructure investments, such as access to broadband, will help unlock economic potential.

In collaboration with NG Clearing (NGCL) Limited – the Central Counterparty Clearing System for the NGX derivatives market – NGX will host a free training for firms that have applied to participate in the derivatives market on Wednesday, 7 April 2021.

  • ISDA And FIA Respond To The European Commission’s Roadmap Consultation On CSDR

    On April 4, 2021, ISDA and FIA submitted a joint response to the European Commission’s (EC) roadmap consultation on the review of Central Securities Depositories Regulation (CSDR). In the response, the associations outline the need to clarify the scope of the settlement discipline regime with respect to derivatives transactions. In the context of margin transfers and physically settled derivatives, the associations ask the EC to prioritize reforming the settlement discipline regime’s mandatory buy-in rules in the upcoming CSDR review.

  • CFTC Financial Data For Futures Commission Merchants Update

    Futures commission merchants (FCMs) and retail foreign exchange dealers (RFEDs) must file monthly financial reports with the CFTC's Division of Swap Dealer and Intermediary Oversight (DSIO) within 17 business days after the end of the month. Selected financial information from these reports is published below. The most recent month-end information generally is added within 12 business days after FCMs and RFEDs file their reports, but occasionally may be added later. For example:  The 17th business day filing “due date" for February 28, 2015 financial reports was March 25, 2015.  The 12 business day target for posting these data was April 10, 2015.

Yellen addressed the virtual meeting of the African Leaders Dialogue on the COVID-Climate Emergency, co-hosted by African Development Bank President Akinwumi Adesina and Global Center on Adaptation Chair Ban Ki-Moon.  The Secretary stressed her commitment to cooperate with African partners on innovative solutions, including through multilateral financial institutions, to help people cope with the impacts of a climate that is already changing.

  • CFTC Orders New York Man To Pay More Than $1 Million For Role In Fraudulent Binary Options Scheme

    The Commodity Futures Trading Commission today issued an order filing and settling charges against Glenn Olson formerly of Brooklyn, New York, for his role in a binary options fraud that harmed U.S. customers involving Blue Bit Banc, a United Kingdom company, and Blue Bit Analytics, Ltd, located in Turks and Caicos.
