Being part of the Science of Blockchain Conference is an honor, although even the titles of most of the talks are intimidating for this non-scientist. Acting CFTC Chairman Pham Launches Listed Spot Crypto Trading Initiative - Stakeholders Invited To Provide Public Input By August 18

Commodity Futures Trading Commission Acting Chairman Caroline D. Pham announced today the CFTC will launch an initiative for trading spot crypto asset contracts that are listed on a CFTC-registered futures exchange (designated contract market or DCM). This is the first initiative in the CFTC’s crypto sprint to start implementation of the recommendations in the President’s Working Group on Digital Asset Markets report. Acting Chairman Pham announced CFTC’s crypto sprint last week. [See CFTC Press Release No. 9104-25]

Equilend: Securities Lending Revenue Hits $1.24 Billion In July 2025, Up 47% Year–Over–Year - Global Equity Markets Drive Revenue Surge - Americas And APAC Lead Regional Growth

The global securities finance industry generated $1.24 billion in revenue for lenders in July 2025, according to data from EquiLend Data & Analytics. The figure marks a 47% increase from July 2024 and a 12% increase from June 2025.

The Options Clearing Corporation (OCC) has reported a 12.3% year-over-year (YoY) increase in cleared futures and options, totaling 1.2 billion contracts in July.  

Federal Reserve: Senior Loan Officer Opinion Survey On Bank Lending Practices

Survey of up to eighty large domestic banks and twenty-four U.S. branches and agencies of foreign banks. The Federal Reserve generally conducts the survey quarterly, timing it so that results are available for the January/February, April/May, August, and October/November meetings of the Federal Open Market Committee. The Federal Reserve occasionally conducts one or two additional surveys during the year. Questions cover changes in the standards and terms of the banks' lending and the state of business and household demand for loans. The survey often includes questions on one or two other topics of current interest.
