Singapore Cements Position As Third Largest Global FX Centre

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) announced today that Singapore’s foreign exchange (FX) average daily trading volumes (ADTV) rose to US$929 billion in April 2022, increasing by 45% from April 2019. Singapore retained its position as the third largest FX centre in the world, after the UK and the US, with its share of global FX volumes rising to 9.5% in April 2022, from 7.7% in April 2019. These figures were released yesterday in the 2022 Triennial Central Bank Survey of the global FX and over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives market conducted by the Bank for International Settlements.

A total of 1,374 venture capital (VC) funding deals of worth $18.5 billion were announced in India during Q1-Q3 2022, which is 22.4% decline in value compared to the same period last year even though deals volume grew by 15.3%, reveals GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

- Despite being a relative bright spot in an increasingly dimming global economy, Asia’s growth is expected to slow amid headwinds from global financial tightening, the war in Ukraine, and the sharp and uncharacteristic slowdown in the Chinese economy.
- Asia’s policymakers face worsening trade-offs but should remain steadfast on monetary tightening to tame rising inflation, fiscal consolidation to stabilize debt, and pre-emptively address emerging stability risks through the full use of its policy toolkit.
- Given its strong trade and supply-chain links, Asia has a lot to lose in the event of sharp fragmentation scenarios where the world divides into separate trading blocs.
