    On July 6th, the Securities and Futures Financial Technology Research and Development Center (Shenzhen) (“the Financial Technology Center”), built and operated by Shenzhen Stock Exchange (“SZSE”), successfully held its 2022 Project Conclusion and 2023 Project Proposal Seminar. More than 2000 people including the relevant officials of the Science and Technology Supervision Bureau of the China Securities Regulatory Commission (“the Technology Bureau”) and SZSE and the technical experts from industry institutions attended the seminar via online and offline means.

    Thank you for another tremendously successful Market Risk Advisory Committee (MRAC) meeting.  The contributions of the MRAC are directly the result of the commitment and dedication of 1) the MRAC Members, Subcommittee Members, and the leadership of both the Committee and Subcommittees; 2) the indefatigable support of the Commission’s leadership with crucial and invaluable support from Clark Hutchinson, Director of the Division of Clearing and Risk; Amanda Olear, Director of the Market Participants Division; and Vince McGonangle, Director of the Division of Market Oversight; and 3) the Designated Federal Officer and Alternate Designated Federal Officers who support the MRAC and its Subcommittees.  I’d like to say a bit more about this final group in a moment.

    BBCE - the Brazilian OTC Energy and the leading energy market infrastructure of the country - today announced strong performance in power physicals. The Compay achieved its best half year power volume for the first half of 2023 with 159 TWh, up 21.5% from first half 2022, which was the previous record. The rise reflects the demand of long-term assets as well as of renewable energies.

    Today, Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Wally Adeyemo met with foreign counterparts from the European Commission and European Union and executives from companies in the clean energy industry in Brussels, Belgium. In meetings with Executive Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis, Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni, and Secretary-General Stefano Sannino, the Deputy Secretary discussed joint efforts to hold Russia accountable for their illegal war, including actions to limit Russia’s revenue, erode their military-industrial complex, and prevent sanctions evasion. Deputy Secretary Adeyemo also underscored the importance of continued economic support for Ukraine.

    The Board of Supervisors of the European Banking Authority (EBA) has elected Helmut Ettl as its Vice-Chairperson for a duration of two and a half years. Mr Ettl will take up his new role on 10 July and will replace Jo Swyngedouw, whose mandate came to an end.
