The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (Commission) today announced measures to promote trading on swap execution facilities (SEFs) and support an orderly transition to mandatory trading of swaps, which begins for certain interest rate swaps on February 15, 2014.

Platts Survey: OPEC Pumps 29.87 Million Barrels Of Crude Oil Per Day In January - Up 150,000 B/D From December And Driven By Up-Stepped Libyan Production

Crude oil production from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) rose 150,000 barrels per day (b/d) to 29.87 million b/d in January from 29.72 million b/d in December as an increase of 280,000 b/d in still-beleaguered Libyan production more than offset drops in Angola, Iraq and Saudi Arabia, a just-released Platts survey of OPEC and oil industry officials and analysts showed Monday.

Thank you, Chris [Cox], for your generous introduction and your invitation to address this truly distinguished gathering. I was honored that Chris asked me to speak here today. But it was an even bigger honor to work for Chris when he was Chairman, both as his Counsel and as Deputy Director of the Division of Trading and Markets. Chris’s incredible intellect and leadership tremendously benefitted the agency during the worst of the financial crisis. I know I can speak for my colleagues who, like me, toiled in the trenches alongside Chris when I say that Chris was an island of calm in a sea of misguided government intervention.

The European Central Bank (ECB) today published its legal opinion on a new directive regulating the development of the European Market for electronic payments, taking into account developments in e-commerce and the introduction of new solutions. The opinion was issued at the request of the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament.

Q4 2013: Bonds Quarterly Statistics - The Latest Issue Of The "Bonds Quarterly Statistics" Report Looks At The Performance Of SIX Swiss Exchange's Bonds Segment In Q4 2013

SIX Swiss Exchange today published the latest edition of its Bonds Quarterly Statistics[PDF]. Turnover in the CHF bonds segment totaled CHF 37.1 bn in Q4 2013, a decrease of CHF 5.8 bn from Q4 2012. For the whole of 2013, turnover in the secondary market for CHF bonds fell by 11.6% from the previous year to CHF 163.8 bn. The number of transactions in 2013 fell by 6.0% to 506'781 (2012: 539'300). The international bonds segment put in a good performance, with turnover rising 71.5% to CHF 3.0 bn.
