I appreciate Congressional efforts to provide the Commission with an appropriation of $215 million, a modest increase in Commission spending levels. It is quite clear from this funding level that the Commission will need to pick its funding priorities carefully. I look forward to working with my fellow Commissioners to develop a responsible spending plan that enables the Commission to conduct its enhanced oversight mission under Dodd-Frank, improve its technology utilization for surveillance purposes, and prevent furloughs of agency staff.

Douglas T. Breeden Selected As The Recipient Of The 2013 IAQF/SunGard Financial Engineer Of The Year Award

The International Association for Quantitative Finance (IAQF) (formerly the IAFE) and SunGardhave named Douglas T. Breeden, William W. Priest professor of finance and former dean of Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, the 2013 IAQF/SunGard Financial Engineer of the Year (FEOY). The award will be presented to Dr. Breeden by IAQF senior fellow and former FEOY winner and Nobel laureate Robert C. Merton on February 6, 2014, at the Museum of Mathematics in New York City, during the IAQF/SunGard FEOY Award Gala Dinner.

Egyptian Exchange Reviews Stocks Elligible For Specialized Activities Twice A Year

EGX will be reviewing list of stocks meeting criteria for specialized activities twice a year instead of once. This will be at the same timing of the periodic review of the components of the key indicators Egyptian Stock Exchange (January and July of each year). This comes after approval of the Financial Supervisory Authority on EGX proposal in this concern.

CME Group Announces Record Year For International Coal Futures In 2013

CME Group, the world's leading and most diverse derivatives marketplace, today announced a record year for its international coal futures of 1,298,361 contracts (1.3 billion metric tonnes) traded in 2013. This is a 300 percent increase compared to the volume traded in 2012 which was 329,985 contracts (330 million metric tonnes).

Hong Kong's Securities And Futures Commission: Court Orders Futures Trader To Compensate Investors Over $13 Million

The Court of First Instance today ordered Mr Tsoi Bun, a futures trader and former licensed intermediary, to pay $13,688,950 to around 500 investors affected by his manipulation of the calculated opening prices (COP) of index futures contracts in the futures market between 2007 and 2009.
