DME Welcomes Philip Futures As Clearing Member

DME, the Middle East’s premier international energy futures and commodities exchange today announced the approval of Phillip Futures as a Clearing Member. Phillip Futures is a Chicago-based clearing futures commission merchant (FCM) and a member of the Singapore-based PhillipCapital Group.

Platts China Steel Sentiment Index Indicates Slowed Demand Growth For May - Monthly Index Totaled 50.34, Down 21.80 Points From April’s Reading Of 72.14 - Survey Suggests Flat Demand For Export Orders

The health of China’s steel sector appears to be leveling off and likely to see less support from demand growth in May, according to the latest Platts China Steel Sentiment Index (Platts CSSI), which showed a reading of 50.34 out of a possible 100. This is down 21.80 points from the April level of 72.14, but is above 50, which is the pivot point for indications of expansion versus contraction. The Platts CSSI reflects the responses of steel makers, traders and exporters at the end of each month to questions about new orders for the month ahead and the proprietary survey contains additional sentiment readings on production, inventories and prices.

CME Group Inc. Reports Solid First-Quarter 2014 Financial Results

CME Group Inc. (NASDAQ: CME) today reported revenues of $777 million and operating income of $454 million for the first quarter of 2014. Net income attributable to CME Group was $267 million and diluted earnings per share were $0.79. Excluding the items noted in the reconciliation, adjusted earnings per share would have been $0.831.

LME Welcomes Technology Team In-House

The London Metal Exchange (LME) today welcomes its previously outsourced technology team in-house. The insourcing of IT is an indication of the function’s increasing importance to the LME and the integral part it will play in the delivery of strategic initiatives, including the launch of LME Clear in September 2014.

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has banned John Christopher Hughes from performing any function in relation to any regulated activity in the financial services industry for failings related to US$2.3 billion unauthorised trading losses by another trader Kweku Mawuli Adoboli. The FCA found that Hughes is not a fit and proper person.
