- 5000th session takes place on the WSE on 22 January 2013.
- 22 years on since the creation of the Warsaw Stock Exchange, the number of companies listed on the Main Market has increased from 5 to 439 and the capitalisation of domestic companies from PLN 45 million to over PLN 537 billion.
- The WIG index has increased by more than 50 times since the first session.
The first trading session on the WSE took place on 16 April 1991. On that day, five companies with a total capitalisation of PLN 45 million were newly listed, 112 buy and sell orders were placed, and the total value of trading was PLN 1,990 (US$ 2 thousand). The event initiated the growth of Poland’s capital market.
Today, the Warsaw Stock Exchange operates and supervises trading on one of Europe’s most dynamically growing capital markets. The WSE’s Main Market lists 439 companies, including 43 foreign companies, with a total capitalisation of more than PLN 765 billion.* 22 years on since the creation of the Warsaw Stock Exchange, the capitalisation of domestic companies amounts to PLN 537.3 billion.* Since the first trading session, the WIG index has increased from 1 thousand points to 47.9 thousand points.

The WSE’s main indices peaked in 2007, the year of the highest number of IPOs on the Main Market. The session with the biggest trading in shares took place on 12 May 2010, when the value of trade was over PLN 3.3 billion, including PLN 2.5 billion in shares of the company PZU newly listed on that day. PZU remains the company whose shares generated the highest value of trading per session in the history of the WSE.
The WSE reported a record-high number of transactions in shares (138,234) on 9 August 2011; the session with the highest volume of trading in futures contracts (151,474) was on 17 March 2010; and the session with the highest volume of trading in options (19,372) on 4 August 2011.
The company which boasts the record-high annual return rate is Krosno: its share price grew by 2,411% in 1993. The biggest initial public offering in the history of the WSE was the IPO of PZU SA (newly listed on 12 May 2010) worth more than PLN 8 billion. The IPO with the biggest number of individual investors’ subscriptions (830 thousand) was that of ING Bank Śląski (newly listed on 25 January 1994).
